The Hill 03:35
"The Hill" All day long on the hill We were so young and you were my thrill Now it’s gone, I remember still That I was strong next to you We’ll hide here for a little romance Away from the easterly blast We’ll lie here in our sandy motel There was always something doin’ here Here in the ocean waves Those Brighton days We’d lie down in the hill Shelter from the easterly wind Warm the sun as we lay on the dunes Our secret spot where time stood still We’ll hide here for a little romance Away from the easterly grasp We’ll lie here in our sandy motel There was always something doin’ here Here in the ocean waves Those Brighton days All this time, I wonder still Where we went wrong, because I loved you Let’s give another moment a chance Wait for the Norwester blast We’ll lie here in our sandy motel There was always something doin’ here Hide here for a little romance Away from the easterly bite We’ll lie here in our sandy motel There was always something doin’ here Here in the ocean waves Those Brighton days Here in the ocean waves Those were our Brighton days

"Marine Parade" Here we ride down Marine Parade It’s the greatest ride that we’ve ever made See the sun-kissed hills in their golden glaze in the heat He we go to the beach Endless light is where we meet We’re running over dunes, an adventure waits in the waves Oh the jewel of the east, for you and me See the kids, buckets and their spades Building dams to prevent the waves The rushing water thrills, building memories to remain Waimairi beach to the North beach crowd To the Southshore spit to the central hub Maybe providence will come our way someday Oh the jewel of the east, for you and me Ride on, ride on, me and you, me and you x2

"Waiting for the right door" Spread your wings and fly Race off in the night Sparks and smoky fire Bursting into flight See, we’re the ones no one Nobodies want to know One day we’ll move on When they gentrify the lot We’ll go underground Underground Let’s open up a dream Smoking methamphetamine It does its job so well I feel it loving me all over See, we are hungry for True love and we want more We’re starving to be heard Don’t want to be a problem We’ll go underground Underground Waiting for the right door, to open any moment x2 We’ve got social ills Can’t fix it with a pill It’s not easy to Diagnose the true Stories from the false Sometimes it’s easier to divorce But it’s not 2x2 When we're all many different shades of blue Underground Underground Waiting for the right door, to open any moment x2 Another day to hope for, to see you stand in front of me Another day to hope for, to see you standing with me To see you standing with me

Synopsis:
"Streets Forgotten"
A song that asks the question of who will stand up for the people and place of the often maligned seaside suburb New Brighton, in Christchurch, New Zealand.

"The Hill"
My father, uncle and their friends when teenagers, spent many a summer's day at New Brighton Beach in Christchurch, New Zealand. When the cooler Easterly wind would blow, they would seek refuge in the sand dunes and bask in the sunshine. The specific place in the dunes was known as "The Hill". I never knew if my mother was a part of this crew, but I imagined her in "The Hill" with my father when writing this song. So the song romanticised their relationship. Reality would prove different.

"Marine Parade"
The song is about a hot summer's day swimming, surfing and playing at New Brighton Beach. Marine Parade is the road that runs parallel and accesses New Brighton beach in Christchurch, New Zealand.

"Waiting for the Right Door"
Gentrification happens everywhere. Will New Brighton gentrify? Probably. This song is a story of those who are most affected. The one's who can't afford. The one's who are "underclass". The social "problems". Who cares about them? I'm sure they'd like to know who is in their corner.
